I literally cannot believe that we are heading into Christmas season so quickly! I am not sure if it was the weather this year, but our "fall" season felt entirely too short and we're heading into (at least weather wise) winter wayyyy too quickly.
I know this is going to be a SHOCKER to you all and forewarning that this is an #ad, but Mattel has added this 2024 Día de Muertos Barbie in their lineup and I am OBSESSED. (and she's on sale for BF) Perfect for your collection or to teach different heritages and cultures to your kids. I find that is SO IMPORTANT. If you want to change the world- start at home. Teaching your kids different cultures and different ways of living is a really beautiful thing and I highly recommend it to every family out there. Some ways we do this are with books, dolls and currency.

I love the details on her dress and how they reflect a traditional Mexican styling for the Día de los Muertos holiday. ( I mean hello the skirt is ACTUALLY embroidered). I also love their depiction of calavera (sugar skull) in the design of the makeup. They also added the head piece which is supposed to represent the Marigolds that are considered the national symbol of the holiday.
Some family and close friends know how much I love this holiday and the research and understanding I've tried to put into learning all I can about it. I think it's absolutely beautiful to have two days out of the year where families come together to celebrate and "welcome back" the deceased to the living world. As I have gotten older, I have realized that the traditions for the deceased that used to occur have pretty much depleted in our culture. For example, back when photos we're JUST becoming a thing, people used to take "death photos". These were photoshoots of the deceased party either by themselves or among their family members. These photos were to celebrate their lives, but also a sign of mourning. These traditions seemed to have fallen to the wayside as time has passed and I feel that is such a shame. Having two days to honor your loved ones is just SO beautiful and special and I wish that we could adopt a similar tradition to our culture as a way to honor our late loved ones.
If you want a beautiful way to introduce different cultures and holidays to your kiddos, or just want a beautiful doll for yourself, here she is! I urge you to take some time to learn about the holiday as well because it is just magical and beautiful.

With love from me,
Leslie
